Houston Restaurant Reviews

We love to eat, and we love to eat out.  Our friends frequently ask us for  dining recommendations, and we try to stay current with all the new restaurant openings.  We aren't professional restaurant critics, and our day jobs have nothing to do with the food or restaurant industry.  We pay for all our meals.

There's just two of us, so we may only have the opportunity to visit a restaurant once before writing a review.  We won't  have been able to try a number of the menu items, so we invite you to share your experiences.

Thank you for visiting our website, and happy dining!

We love this restaurant.  It's one of our favorites.  The setting is very charming and comfortable.  You almost forget you're in a strip shopping center in Rice Village and not in a French bistro.  It's even o'kay to have to wait for a table (which is frequently the case as they don't take reservations) since the bar is so inviting.  (And you have the added benefit of testing your distance vision on the blackboard menu posted on the opposite wall.)  The wine list (all French) is reasonably priced and very well chosen.  (The restaurant just won My Table's top rating for wine lists.)  We've enjoyed everything we've eaten here, particularly the foie gras, any fish dish, and lamb.  The mussels are a must try.  They are served in a butter and cream sauce that serves as a decadent dipping sauce for the bread.  It's incredibly good and addictive.  An added benefit is that this is the kind of place you can go by yourself and not feel awkward.  On a recent Saturday at lunch, we saw a young woman dining alone on champagne, escargots, and mussels -- now that's the way to live.
